For this project, I designed an immersive virtual environment centered on a place that I consider both special and sacred, using personal experiences and autoethnographic research as the foundation for the narrative. My project takes the form of a Library of Memories, housed within a mosque-inspired library that represents my culture, family origins, and faith while preserving objects connected to significant moments throughout my life.
Visitors begin their journey on a floating bayou island illuminated by fireflies, where the sounds of nature evoke my grandmother's birthplace of New Orleans. As they approach the library, the Islamic call to prayer gradually becomes louder, inviting them into a reflective space where architecture, sound, and meaningful artifacts work together to tell my personal story. Through environmental storytelling, interactive exploration, and immersive media, the project explores how place, memory, and identity can be experienced within a virtual space.
The original plan was to also include audio memories from my family video tapes that correlated to each of the artifacts promoting more interaction.
